A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
