Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party expressed anger after the ex-president accused a group of Democratic congress members of being "traitors" and stated they should be arrested and penalized "through capital punishment" following their release of a disputed video.

The Content That Provoked the Controversy

The recorded message, published on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic elected officials who in the past worked in defense or security roles.

"Similar to us, you all made an vow to defend and defend this national charter," the lawmakers affirmed in the 90-second video. "At present, the risks to our constitution aren't just from foreign nations, but from right here at home. Our statutes are unambiguous, you can decline unlawful commands, you can decline illegal orders, you have to refuse illegal orders. No one has to execute orders that violate the statutes or our founding principles."

Donald Trump's Furious Response

The clip appeared to provoke a heated reaction from the former president.

On Thursday morning, Trump posted on Truth Social: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another message, he wrote: "This constitutes really bad, and Risky to our United States. Their comments cannot be permitted to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent post, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also reposted a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Representatives React

Following Trump's comments on that day, Democratic leadership released a unified statement denouncing the remarks.

"Violent politics has no place in this nation," they wrote. "Congress members who appeared in the video all served our United States with great patriotism and distinction. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and harmful death threats against members of Congress, and urge House Republicans to forcefully do the same."

The party representatives also said that they had been in communication with protective services "to guarantee the protection of these members and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must immediately remove these radical digital publications and recant his dangerous discourse before he gets someone killed," the announcement added.

Representatives' Firm Answer

The lawmakers who were featured in the video also issued a declaration.

"We serve as ex-military personnel and defense specialists who value this United States and made an vow to defend and support the national charter of the United States," they stated. "That oath lasts a lifetime, and we plan to maintain it. No threat, intimidation, or incitement will stop us from that sacred responsibility."

"The most revealing aspect is that the president considers it subject to penalty by capital punishment for us to reiterate the statutes," they added. "Armed forces members should recognize that we have their support as they carry out their vow to the founding principles and responsibility to follow only legal commands. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our obligation."

They added: "All citizens must come together and denounce the ex-president's requests for our death and political violence. This is a period for ethical certainty."

Additional Partisan Comments

The Democratic Senate minority leader also condemned Trump's remarks and shared on online networks: "Let's be crystal clear: the former president is calling for the capital punishment of public representatives."

He stated: "This represents an outright THREAT. All senators, each house member, all citizens – without partisan consideration – should censure this immediately and absolutely."

The Republican House speaker justified Trump's assertion that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", characterizing the video as "extremely improper", adding: "It is very risky, you have prominent officials of the legislature instructing soldiers to disobey orders, I think that represents unprecedented in the nation's past."

The GOP official also allegedly stated to media outlets that in what he reviewed of Trump's publications, Trump was "describing the violation of sedition" but that "attorneys have to examine the language and establish all that."

Administration Response

During a executive branch meeting on that day, when asked by a media member, "Is the president want to kill congressional representatives?", the administration spokesperson answered: "Certainly not."

"Let's be clear about what the former president is addressing," the official declared. "We see current representatives of the American legislature who conspired to orchestrate a recorded statement to personnel of the national defense, to current military personnel urging them to ignore the president's legal commands."

She stated: "The sanctity of our defense system relies on the hierarchy, and if that system is compromised, it can result in people getting killed, it can result in disorder, and that is exactly what these congressional representatives ... are basically encouraging."
