Ex- Bengals and University of Texas Wide Receiver Jordan Shipley Severely Burned in Farm Accident
Ex-University of Texas standout and professional football player Jordan Shipley is hospitalized after suffering serious burns in an accident on his property near Burnet, Texas.
Details of the Accident
Per a release from his family, Shipley was operating a machine when it ignited. The 40-year-old managed to escape, it was after he suffered major burn injuries over a large area of his body. He was able to get to one of his workers, who drove him to a local hospital. He was then care-flighted to Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
“Please pray for full healing and no infections or other issues on his journey back to health,” posted his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on social media.
Extent of Injuries
It has been reported that Shipley suffered full-thickness burns to more than 20% of his body. Family members have stated that the main danger at this stage is infection and lung complications.
Recalling Jordan Shipley's Career
Shipley received Associated Press All-America honors while at Texas in 2009. During his college career, he recorded 248 receptions for over 3,000 receiving yards and 33 scores. He also ran track for the university.
Selected in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, he played for multiple NFL teams over his professional career. His retirement came in 2014.
