Six Individuals Detained After €12 Million Heist on Gold Refining Lab in the French Republic

A group of six individuals equipped with military-grade weapons used explosive devices to breach the security of a gold treatment facility located in Lyon, causing light wounds to five staff members during described as the most recent prominent daytime heist to occur in France.

The audacious robbery occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, with police forces rapidly detaining the individuals believed responsible and recovering the stolen goods valued at approximately 12 million euros (£10.5M), according to officials.

Five workers of the gold refining company sustained minor injuries from the blast, and three employees were transported to hospital for assessment, officials confirmed. A total of twenty-eight staff were inside the facility when the robbers attacked.

Those arrested, considered seasoned offenders, were arrested shortly after the incident in the nearby town of the town of Vénissieux, a source close to the investigation stated.

A female participant who participated in the heist was also apprehended, officers confirmed.

“Six individuals who used detonations in an assault targeting a metals processing plant in the Lyon area were caught in the act,” the nation's interior minister declared on social media, lauding police for their “decisiveness, speed and control”.

High-caliber firearms, handguns and detonation devices were also confiscated.

The raid happened as law enforcement in France on the same day arrested five more suspects, among them a key figure, in relation to the recent audacious theft at the Louvre.

Many investigative personnel have been hunting four robbers who utilized a lorry featuring an elevating platform and cutting gear to break into an upper-level exhibition space at the museum on 19 October, making off with ornaments assessed at around €88 million.

In a different significant robbery, burglars recently broke into the Parisian museum of natural history, taking gold specimens worth over $1 million. A woman from China, aged 24 was arrested earlier this month in the city of Barcelona in relation to the burglary, prosecutors stated.

The string of thefts has raised concerns in the country regarding insufficient protection at cultural venues and other facilities containing precious artifacts.
