The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few key changes:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
